TV, YouTube, Podcasts, Business: The Presenter’s Role Has Changed

Posted by Aspire , 4

When I first launched Aspire, becoming a presenter generally meant one thing: television.

You trained to work in a studio, deliver to camera, interview guests, work with scripts and autocue, and hopefully secure opportunities with broadcasters.

Today, those skills are more valuable than ever,  but the places you can use them have multiplied enormously.

The modern presenter might appear on television one day, host a YouTube series the next, present content for a business, record a podcast, create social video or become the recognisable face of their own specialist subject.

And the audiences are there

Ofcom's latest figures show that UK audiences now watch an average of 41 minutes of YouTube per person, per day in the home, while viewing YouTube through television sets has doubled since 2022. YouTube has also reported more than one billion monthly viewers of podcast content, while LinkedIn research shows 78% of B2B marketers are already using video, with more planning to increase their use.

So what does being a presenter in 2026 actually look like?

📺 Television & Broadcast Presenting

Traditional television remains one of the most demanding areas of presenting — and an excellent benchmark for learning the craft properly.

Working to broadcast standards teaches you how to communicate clearly, think quickly, use a teleprompter, handle interviews, work with producers and directors and remain natural when the red light comes on.

Even if television isn't your ultimate destination, these disciplines create an incredibly strong foundation for everything else.

▶️ YouTube & Online Shows

You no longer need a broadcaster to give you a programme.

YouTube has allowed presenters, experts, journalists, businesses and creators to develop their own formats, audiences and channels.

Property tours, travel programmes, interviews, documentaries, reviews, educational content and magazine-style shows all need people who can communicate confidently and authentically on camera.

The production platform may have changed. The ability to hold an audience hasn't.

📱 Social Media Presenter & Content Creator

Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Shorts and other platforms have created an enormous demand for people who can talk naturally and engagingly to camera.

This isn't simply about becoming an "influencer".

Professionals, entrepreneurs, journalists, experts and businesses increasingly need someone who can take an idea and communicate it effectively in 30 seconds, 60 seconds or several minutes.

It may look informal — but being relaxed, concise and believable on camera is a skill.

🎙️ Podcast & Video Podcast Hosting

The podcast has evolved considerably.

Many of today's podcasts are effectively television programmes without a television channel — multi-camera interviews, conversations and specialist shows distributed through YouTube as well as audio platforms.

Good podcast hosts need to listen, question, react, steer conversations and make their guests feel comfortable — many of the same skills used by experienced broadcast interviewers.

💼 Business & Corporate Presenting

One of the biggest areas of growth doesn't involve becoming a professional presenter at all.

CEOs, founders, sales teams, trainers, consultants and subject specialists are increasingly expected to communicate on camera.

That could mean presenting company videos, webinars, LinkedIn content, internal communications, product launches, conferences, training films or thought-leadership content.

For many people, presenting is becoming a professional skill rather than a job title.

🎤 Live Events, Panels & Interviews

Presenters are also increasingly moving between screen and stage.

Hosting conferences, chairing panels, interviewing speakers, presenting awards and facilitating live events all require confidence, preparation and the ability to communicate while responding to what's happening around you.

Again, good broadcast training transfers remarkably well.

So where does Aspire fit into all of this?

Although the platforms have evolved, our approach hasn't changed in one important respect:

We believe you should learn to present properly.

Our training comes from professional broadcast experience, and we coach to broadcast standards — because once you understand those fundamentals, you can adapt them for television, YouTube, social media, podcasting, business or whatever comes next.

Aspire training isn't designed to turn everyone into the same type of presenter.

Quite the opposite.

Our courses use small group sizes, individual coaching and one-to-one filming time, allowing us to work on your particular ambitions, experience and natural presenting style.

Depending on your goals, training can include:

  • Presenting naturally to camera

  • Broadcast presenting techniques

  • Vocal delivery and communication

  • Script writing and structuring your message

  • Teleprompter / autocue

  • Interviewing and podcast hosting

  • YouTube and social video presentation

  • Business and corporate communication

  • Studio and location presenting

  • Professional filming and showreel material

  • Career and industry guidance

  • Ongoing support following your training

Whether you're looking to start a presenting career, diversify an existing one, launch your own content or simply become significantly better at communicating on camera, getting professional direction at the beginning can make an enormous difference.

The technology will continue to change.

Platforms will come and go.

But audiences will always respond to people who can communicate with clarity, credibility, personality and confidence.

That's what we teach.
