Why Do You Suddenly Sound Different on Camera?

Hi!
Have you ever noticed that the moment someone presses record, you suddenly stop sounding like yourself?
Your voice changes. You become a little more formal. You start thinking about every word. And sometimes even the simplest sentence becomes strangely difficult to say.
It’s one of the most common things we see at Aspire.

When you're chatting to someone over coffee, you don’t consciously think about your hands, your voice, where to look or whether you’re saying the “right” thing.
Put a camera in front of you and suddenly you’re thinking about all of it.

Small changes can make an enormous difference.
If the answer is no, try it again, but this time forget about presenting and simply talk to the person behind the lens.
After more than 20 years working in television, and now coaching presenters through Aspire, it's something I see again and again.

The best presenters rarely look like they're presenting.
They communicate... and that's a skill you can learn.
I'll be sharing more simple exercises like this to help you become more confident, natural and engaging on camera.
And, of course, if you'd like to take that further, it's exactly the kind of thing we work on practically during our Aspire presenter training.
Until the next time,
Darren
